Announced at OpenAI's annual developer conference, DevDayApps SDK development tools, allowing third-party applications to be directly integrated into ChatGPT, making this conversational AI no longer just a text assistant, but further becoming an application platform that can operate multiple services.
The first applications currently supported include Spotify, Canva, Coursera, Figma and Zillow, and OpenAI also announced that services including DoorDash, OpenTable, Target and Uber will be integrated in the coming weeks.
In the future, developers can apply to list their own apps through the Apps SDK, and even establish a charging model to form a profitable ChatGPT application ecosystem.
For example, a user can simply type "Spotify, help me create a playlist for this Friday's party" into a ChatGPT conversation. ChatGPT will prompt the user to connect to their Spotify account and recommend music based on themes, context, or moods. Once completed, the system will directly lead the user to the Spotify playlist, allowing them to listen immediately. Spotify also stated that it plans to continue expanding the integration and interactive experience in the future.
Another demonstration, from Canva, showed how users could discuss startup ideas with AI within ChatGPT and ultimately generate a promotional poster for a "dog walking service" directly within Canva. This integration allows ChatGPT to not only assist with content conception but also translate creative ideas into concrete designs, signaling that conversational AI is truly entering the "actionable" phase.
OpenAI stated that the Apps SDK will transform ChatGPT into an "operation hub" for interacting with a variety of external services. In the future, everything from ordering food, hailing a ride, designing a design, taking a course, and even managing your schedule will be possible directly through ChatGPT. Users simply call the app name in a conversation to initiate related actions. Upon first use, users will be asked to authorize account linking to ensure a secure and personalized experience.
Notably, OpenAI is also developing a developer submission and review mechanism, with third-party developers expected to apply later this year, allowing more software to join the ChatGPT ecosystem. In the future, ChatGPT will move beyond simply being a language model to become an integrated "AI operating platform," making conversation a unified gateway to all applications and services.
With the continued addition of services like Spotify, Canva, and Uber, ChatGPT is gradually evolving into a platform-based "super app." It is evolving from a simple question-and-answer conversational bot to a multi-functional assistant that directly connects people to their daily lives, creative endeavors, and entertainment, thereby changing the way people interact with software.
